As the air gets a little crisper, the leaves start to turn color, and everything is pumpkin flavor, it can only mean one thing—it's officially time to rewatch Gilmore Girls. And when you're looking for the perfect place to unleash your inner Lorelai or Rory, look no further than the magic of fall in Eau Claire. In this Gilmore Girls-inspired fall itinerary, we're highlighting Eau Claire's coffee shops, diners, bookshops, and other fall destinations that will transport you into your favorite episodes. It's all about places, flavors, and events that will give the show's biggest fans their main character moment. So grab your coffee and tote bags—we're building a Gilmore Girls fall day in Eau Claire!

Coffee shops Lorelai would approve of

Coffee, coffee, coffee! If you're like Lorelai and need coffee through an IV bag, Eau Claire's coffee shop scene is just the spot. Make your mornings extra Gilmore with a stop at Grand Avenue Cafe, a cozy little coffee and breakfast spot on West Grand Avenue. Its vintage look and personality feel like a warm hug as soon as you walk in, and the tables outside look like an ideal storybook coffee shop in the fall.

For more cozy, character-filled coffee stops, make your way into downtown Eau Claire to grab a coffee and brunch meal from Acoustic Cafe. Again, this spot is an old-time feeling, moody cafe that perfectly fits the scene of a Gilmore Girls morning. Or, make your way down the street for coffee and pastries at Shift Cyclery & Coffee Bar, another charming cafe that was made for fall mornings in Eau Claire.

And don't miss out on The Nostalgic Bean, as this little cafe on a corner in downtown Altoona is the perfect place to have your Gilmore Girls coffee moment. The drink menu changes with the seasons, whipping up new and exciting fall-flavored beverages, and the pastries will become your new go-to when in town.

These spots feel like a small-town gem, just like those in Stars Hollow!

So many books, so little time

If Rory were to visit Eau Claire, you'd definitely find her at one of the charming bookshops in town. She'd probably make her way into Dotters Books in downtown Eau Claire and shop for trending novels from this independent bookstore. It's easy to be lured into this shop, as the brick exterior and adorable "Books Here" sign scream fall. The store is kid-friendly with a collection of kids' books and fun, quirky reading nooks in the shop.

After Dotters, Rory would definitely need to pack her tote before heading to Amanita Books to stock up on gently used stories from every genre. Once you wander into this enchanting bookstore, it's tough to leave—the warm fairy lights, comfy leather chairs, and gentle nature of the shop could be an entire morning activity in Eau Claire. Autumn stroll through Stars Hollow

Okay, so it's not exactly Stars Hollow, but once you're surrounded by Eau Claire's fall colors, you'll feel like you're there. Just close your eyes and picture it—crisp morning air, leaves crunching as you walk the sidewalks, a warm coffee or tea in hand, and bundled up in our best fall jacket. This is your moment to channel your inner Gilmore girl! Wander along the trails of Phoenix Park, Owen Park, River Prairie, or Carson Park in Eau Claire, and soak up the stunning foliage along the Chippewa River and Half Moon Lake. Or, for more of a woodland walk vibe, head to Wheaton Park and take the trails through the woods for fall colors and possible wildlife spotting. And even though it's not Yale University, Rory would still get a kick out of the gorgeous views in the incredible UW-Eau Claire campus.

While these places certainly make the list, we have an entire guide for the best places to see fall colors in and near Eau Claire. If you're looking for some inspiration, check out our page here, and keep an eye on the Wisconsin fall colors report!

Diners that feel like Luke's

Whether you’re craving comfort food, a sweet treat, or a hometown classic, Eau Claire has dining spots that even Lorelai and Rory would approve of. Chick-a-Dee’s serves up hearty, go-to breakfasts and brunches that hit all the right cozy notes, perfect for a morning adventure fueled by bottomless coffee, just like a morning at Luke’s Diner.

For a taste of home-style, sweet-and-savory goodness, Norske Nook in Osseo delivers traditional Norwegian pies, waffles, and baked goods that are basically a hug on a plate (a spot where Lorelai would probably try every dessert on the menu). And if you’re looking for a place that’s delicious but also has that small-town, diner booth vibe, Court'n House serves up some of the best burgers, fish, pizza, and Bloodys in town.

For an Emily-and-Richard-approved evening, head to Houligans. With its warm, upscale atmosphere and hearty entrées, you’ll feel like you’ve been whisked straight to a Gilmore family Friday night dinner (minus the obligatory argument about Yale vs. Harvard).

Pull up a chair, and channel a little Luke-approved morning energy. Just like in Stars Hollow, the sense of togetherness over food and drinks is a staple of Eau Claire's personality!

Antique oddities & treasures

Fall is the perfect season to wander Eau Claire’s antique shops and vintage stores, where every nook is full of quirky treasures just waiting to be discovered. Plus, you might even find some vintage fall fashion to complete your Gilmore Girls aesthetic! Picture Mrs. Kim running the counters while browsing through downtown shops like Seven Suns Vintage and Eau Claire Vintage for carefully curated, name-brand pieces that are making a comeback and still holding value today. At Seven Suns, you'll find authentic leather boots, vintage jackets, and cozy sweaters for the fall season. When wandering through EC Vintage, you'll find more sporty, retro-style pieces for your fall wardrobe.

Over on Water Street, the new FIO Vintage shop offers a collection of quirky yet classic home pieces and clothing that is still having its moment. It's full of character, style, and stories, and will certainly inspire your Gilmore Girls fall energy.
