Adjacent to one another, Altoona WI is only ten minutes east of Eau Claire. Filled with parks for outdoor activities, country clubs, and golfing opportunities, Altoona is the perfect place for those who enjoy being active!
Cinder City Park is a great little getaway in the heart of the city of Altoona. You’ll find the entire community bustling around the park when it is time for events and activities with cookouts, softball tournaments, and the best that small-town culture has to offer! On the quieter days, Cinder City Park is a great place to catch a few sun rays and watch the kids play on the playground as you read a book. In the winter it’s a great place to get some fresh air and enjoy the great outdoors!
Lake Altoona Country Park is a summer escape filled with options for the whole family. The park has great amenities for picnics and cookouts and even has a great boat launch for access to Lake Altoona. The County Beach is also located there for areas to swim and play, including a playground and shelter for larger events. In addition, Lake Altoona is the home of the Ski Sprites, a local water ski show on Sundays and Wednesdays throughout the summer months! Don’t forget about the great fishing opportunities on the lake, you’ll see avid fishermen out on the lake regularly!
The Eau Claire Golf & Country Club was established in 1901 and now enjoys a long-standing reputation of possessing one of the finest and most challenging golf courses in the upper Midwest. The course is 18 holes, par 71 and is a Championship course spread out over 250 acres of beautiful Wisconsin terrain. Recently a new clubhouse with surrounding grounds was opened which included golf practice areas, swimming facilities including a children’s pool, and three tennis course. The Country Club is a beautiful building which also offers dining as well as larger party rooms for special events.
If you’re looking for a great winter activity we highly suggest checking out the schedule for the Altoona Hobbs Sports Center. This ice rink sporting facility is home to ice hockey and offers open skate times to visitors. Grab a hot chocolate and cheer on a local ice hockey team or bring the gang in for open skate around the hockey schedule for a great time!
