Do you love big band jazz? Would you rather look like a flapper than a hipster?
Then you won’t want to miss the 4th annual Gatsby Gala at UW-Eau Claire. It’s the must-attend party of the year if you love the style of the jazz age as described in the classic novel The Great Gatsby: flapper outfits, good food and drink, swing dancing, etc. Here’s what to know about the special event:
When:
November 10th, 2017, 8-11 PM
Where:
UW-Eau Claire Davies Center
Who’s providing the music?
UW-Eau Claire Jazz I and II as well as special guest artists throughout the evening
How do I get tickets and what’s the cost?
Tickets can be purchased in the UWEC Service Center located in Davies as well as online. Cost is $35 for the general public and $20 for UWEC and other college students.
What’s the attire?
Come in appropriate 1920s black tie attire. For some ideas check out the website Vintage Dancer.
What if I need to brush up on my dance moves?
Two To Tango, a social dance club at UWEC open to both students and the community, has a great website with instructional videos. Watch them in the days leading up to the gala and practice a little.
If you’ve ever wanted to experience a Jay Gatsby-style party, this is your chance. Come out and enjoy a taste of 20s-style glitz and glamour as UWEC is transformed with 20s décor, filled with the always amazing sounds of UWEC Jazz I and II, and enjoy swing dancing while embracing your inner flapper. As F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote in his famous novel, "a little party never killed nobody."
