Summer can get hot, although this summer has been unusually cool more often than not! Still we have found plenty of summer fun. Fairfax Pool has been a huge part of our summer with both kids in early morning swim team through the YMCA. They also like to go now and then on the hot summer days (though I suspect Berit is there more so to check out the boys then cool off… ah youth!). The Downtown Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings until 1 pm is a highlight for us as well. It helps that that it’s in a gorgeous setting like Phoenix Park. We are big fans of the elk steaks and the fresh, often organically and all locally grown produce! Our biggest destination this summer however, has been the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre productions. Joel was in 1776 in June, I was in Grease the end of July and Berit will hit the stage in High School Musical 2 this August. It has kept us incredibly busy, but the year-round productions with ECCT are a staple in our lives and the shows are well worth the time.
When my nieces from Iowa were here in June it was pretty cold and rainy, so we spent a few days over at Action City. They were BIG fans of the go-cars, and we were even able to sneak in a little mini-golf outside before the clouds rolled in. Unfortunately Chaos Waterpark was not yet open, but since that is open to the public year-round, we plan to take them there sometime soon!
We are looking forward now to the fall season (thought it feels like it is already here most days)! Apple picking will start soon… we can’t wait!
