Once again, the summer is going too fast. We weren't able to get out for any major outings this month, but we did manage to have some enjoyable outside time.
I found that biking to the Farmer's Market on a Saturday morning is a great way to start the weekend. Enjoying a cup of coffee and browsing through the offerings at the market, admiring the art and listening to the music is a totally enjoyable experience. It has an almost festive atmosphere. Take some time to walk along the river trail and appreciate the beauty of the downtown area.
We took the dogs on a walk through Putnam Park on a Sunday evening. We hadn't been through the park in several years. It is a really nice walk. Shady and cool in the evening (bug spray recommended at this time of year). You can access the park at the bottom of the hill coming from the upper campus of the UWEC. You can also enter the park from stairs on the State Street hill.
We were able to get out on the water for a sunset pontoon ride on Lake Altoona with some friends. What a beautiful evening. We are hoping to get out on the water again this fall, hopefully a short canoe trip on the Chippewa River. Maybe we'll wait for the fall colors.
One of the highlights of this past month was the Doggie Swim Fest at Fairfax Pool. A yearly event held on the last day before the pool closes for the season, it's a fundraiser for the Eau Claire Human Association. It looks like a great time was had by all. Dogs of every size and breed all just having fun. Next year I think I will bring the dogs!
Don't like to see the summer winding down but looking forward to September. Lots to do.
