Memorial Day Memories

Memorial Day weekend, the beginning of summer.

Saturday, a perfect summer day, warm and sunny.  We decided it would be a good day to visit Big Falls County Park. It had been several years since we had been there in the summer. When our daughters were young we would take them there swimming and fishing and always enjoyed it.  Time to check it out again.

Well, it was exactly as we had remembered it.  Such a beautiful place with so many memories.  The river was low so we were able to cross over to the beach on the other side easily.  We spent some time wading in the water, walking around on the rocks and just sitting on the beach reminiscing about the good times we had there in the past.  Longs days spent there during our high school years, the times we spent there with friends and the many good times we had there when our daughters were young.

All of you E.C. natives, if you haven't been to Big Falls in awhile you really should take the time to visit again.  And if you've never been there before it's a place you shouldn't miss.  The park really is beautiful in any season.  We have enjoyed show shoeing there in the winter and in the fall the colors are spectacular.  There are picnic table and grills available.  No glass containers are permitted in the park so beverages will need to be in cans or plastic.

You will need a parking permit.  The daily fee is $3.00 or you can purchase an annual permit which you can use at any Eau Claire County Park for $25.00.

I would have to say it was a great start to the summer.  We followed up with a visit to Altoona Cinder Park for the Volume One Rock-n-Roll Kickball Classic on Saturday night.  We watched a few games and heard some great music… a good time.

Looking forward to the rest of the summer.  And it's just beginning.
