Spring again. Seems like we were just making plans for everything we wanted to do this winter and here it is almost May again. Now it's time to talk about everything we would like to do this spring and summer. I have been out and about in the local garden centers looking at the flowers, grasses, and yard and garden fun stuff. The Eau Claire area has a great selection of garden centers and greenhouses. It's one of those things that I like to do at this time of year. It feels good to be out in the dirt again. I do not have a green thumb but I do appreciate those that do. I love to get out and enjoy the colors and the smell of spring.
There are a few upcoming events in May for those who like to get out and walk. Beaver Creek Reserve has a Bird Walk on May 1st beginning at 6 a.m. (for the early risers). They also have a Wildflower walk on that same day form 9-11 a.m. The grounds at the Reserve are beautiful and it's a fun place for the whole family. The Wise Nature Center and store should not be missed.
There are also some runs and walks happening in the area in the upcoming month. The Eau Claire Marathon/Half-Marathon will be taking place on Sunday May 2nd, beginning at 8 a.m. in Carson Park. There will also be a 2 mile fun run. Come and cheer on the runners. Also in May are Girls on the Run 5K on May 15 beginning at Owen Park at 10 a.m. The Fido Fun Run is on that same day beginning in Carson Park at 10 a.m. Bring your best four legged friend for a walk in the park.
For the night people out there the Hobbs Observatory is open on clear nights from 9 p.m. until midnight. This is on my to-do list this summer.
So if you can't think of anything to do outside you don't need to look very far. With the abundance of parks, rivers, lakes, bike trails, hiking trails, golf courses, etc. there just doesn't seem to be enough time to do it all. Better start now.
