Good Morrow!
When Jane and I went looking for a romantic time recently, decided to do something that we hadn’t done in a long time. Attend a Renaissance Faire. In the past, every few years we would visit Shakopee’s extensive faire and while we don’t consider ourselves “Rennies”, we do get a kick out of visiting. We had never attended the Chippewa Falls event before, so when we heard that they were back up and running this year after a brief hiatus, we made a point of getting out there.
Wow. The managers of the faire have done a very good job of transporting visitors back in time. A long way back. It doesn’t take much imagination to leave 2010 behind and be enveloped in the music, costumes, buildings and environment that the cast and musicians provide. Again, we aren’t dressing the part (although many, many visitors do –and they had a rather large crowd) but for us, it let us be spectators – time travelers, really – into the past.
With a surprisingly large amount of Renaissance-era style craftsmen and women, all the clothing shops featuring period items and a large variety of food and drink (including the required giant Turkey Leg), the Chippewa Valley Renaissance Faire provided our “fix” for time travel right here in the Eau Claire area. We happened to attend on Romance weekend, which added to the fun, where they had food samples and themed many of their events toward the world of love.
If you live here or are visiting, the faire runs through June 20 with a special Harley weekend. And just announced, it will be extended one weekend past that. Still plenty of time to take someone you love to a really far-off place. Check it out at www.festfun.com!
Later,
Tim
