Hi again. It’s Jane. Tim and I have been so busy lately that it’s been hard to get away for some “us” time. But the other day we made a commitment to punch a hole in our calendars just for us. So we grabbed the bikes and headed out on Eau Claire’s wonderful bike and walking trails. It was a beautiful evening and we were able to talk and catch up while we were riding. Then he surprised me by heading over to Porter’s restaurant in the Ramada Inn downtown for dinner. We decided to eat in their remodeled bar area where the booths are so deep, we felt like we were totally alone. That gave us the chance to continue finding out how each others’ weeks were going.
We made it in time for happy hour so we started with a drink at a great price. I decided to try the steak and shrimp, which was delicious, and Tim opted for a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. He said it was fresh and crispy and the chicken was wonderful. We enjoyed an easy, unhurried meal in a quiet setting. Very nice to have the time together.
Then we headed back out on the bikes and decided to join the crowd in Phoenix Park for the weekly free concert on the grass. It was fun to hear new kinds of music, live and outdoors on a beautiful summer evening. Boy, that event continues to grow every year and it really is a neat addition to the downtown area. The new buildings, the Farmers Market and the interesting details have really rejuvenated that corner of downtown – and the place was packed with all ages.
It was a great night out and actually quite romantic. I guess romance is what you make of it…and the time away from all our other responsibilities was just the thing we needed right then. Stay tuned as we continue to find ways for “us” time in the future. Jane.
