Hi. Tim here.
This week I was looking for something to take Jane to for our “date night” and then I remembered that it was our anniversary of our very first date. Way back then we went downtown for a movie and drinks after. Now, the State Theatre no longer shows movies, but we decided to walk through downtown Eau Claire anyway. We were impressed by all the stores popping up along Barstow Street and ducked in to Cadeaux to see what was there. What a great store! They have everything from wines and cheeses to home decorating items to ready-made gift baskets. Lots of very unique items. We left with a bottle of River Bend Vineyard wine, some gourmet cookies, a handful of amazing caramels and something nice to complete a romantic evening.
Then we headed up to Fischers’ on the Green for a bite to eat. We’ve always found something special there (beyond just the beautiful view) and this was no exception. I’m not a seafood lover, but Jane is, and she enjoyed broiled scallops that she couldn’t stop talking about. I gave the open-faced Cajun steak sandwich a try and I think I’ve fallen in love with Fischers’ Louisiana mayonnaise. Not sure what was in there (and they wouldn’t tell me!) but it was fantastic. I used it on the sandwich and in place of ketchup for my fries.
We had a great evening discovering new places and revisiting old friends. Whether you’ve lived here for a while or are just starting to make memories, Eau Claire offers many ways to have a romantic adventure! Come back again soon to find out what other escapes we’ve managed to uncover.
