Bike to a Great Labor Day Event!

Hello!  Welcome to western Wisconsin as we make the switch from summer fun to all the delights of fall in the Chippewa Valley!

I've had absolutely no time to bike lately...too many great projects on my to do list.  But that doesn't mean that you should waste your time working....get out and enjoy the many trails in our area.  This weekend is filled with some great events that you can bike to...the one that is near and dear to my heart is the Ski Sprites Labor Day Extravaganza and Beach Party!  Our entire family is actively involved with the Ski Sprites Water Ski Show Team and we spend a lot of hours on Lake Altoona, at the Lake Altoona County Beach.  (This is part of the reason that I haven't had much time to bike!)

This year the Sprites are celebrating their 50th season of skiing for the Chippewa Valley and we're ending it with a great bunch of activities that you can bike to!  Hop on the trail in downtown Eau Claire and head down Galloway St. to the bridge over Hwy 53.    Follow the blue road signs out to the beach at Lake Altoona County Park.  There is bike parking there and no entrance fee if you pedal your way in.  Bring a car and it costs $3 for an Eau Claire County Parking Fee.  The show itself is free.  We have concessions available, including corn on the cob and we gladly accept donations.

There is more information on our webpage at www.skisprites.com.  We'd love to have you join us!

What else is happening around town that you bike to?  I'd love to hear of places to bike to that are easy for families to do...if you have any, share it with us at VisitEauClaire...hopefully I can find some time to take a few fall rides to share with you in September.

Hi Colleen, I would like you to consider linking to my bike blog. http://trails-behind.blogspot.com/ My goal is to bike all the Wisconsin bike trails, a project I began last summer. Read my blog and email back to me! I provide lots of on-the-trail info and links for bicyclists. Please respond to me with your decision. Not only is my personal goal to ride all the trails, but to encourage bicyclists from anywhere to visit our state and use the trails. Thanks! Janet Hartmann

I live in the hills south of Eau Claire with my wife, Ruth, my son, Taylor and our two cats, Marie and Louise. We are all active in road and mountain biking, skiing and snow shoeing. Taylor and I race our bikes in the WiSport and WORS races throughout the spring, summer and fall.
